Licenses and Registrations

VEHICLE TAGS, 754-5025

Vehicle tags may be purchased at the Clerk’s Office, located at 65 East Hill Street (behind City Hall). You must bring proof of ownership. Regular vehicle tags are $49 and specialty tags are available for an additional price.

To help control pollution, all vehicles registered must pass a Vehicle Inspection Test before Tennessee tags are issued. The cost is $10 (paid in cash) and takes only a few moments to complete. Vehicle registration is required for identification. Emissions Centers are located at 3363 Stoners Bend Drive in Hermitage, and 810 Tennessee Blvd. in Lebanon. Centers are open Tuesday thru Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm. and Saturday from 7:00am-3:00pm. For additional information, call 361-6300 or 399-8995.

DRIVER'S LICENSE, 443-2757

A Tennessee driver’s license is issued by the State Department of Safety and must be obtained within 30 days of establishing residency. Written, vision and road tests are required; however, a valid out-of-state license will exempt the road test. Free handbooks are available at examining stations. If your license is expired by more than six months, you are required to take the full test. A regular driver's license is $19.50.

If moving from within the state, you must creport change of address within 10 days. The change will go on record, but you will keep the same license. If you wish to show the address change on your current license, you must apply for a new license and photo. Click here to change your address online.

Students up to the age of 18 must show a truancy form signed by school administration dated within the last 30 days to receive a driver’s license. Drivers ages 16-17 must hold their driving permit for three months or have completed driver education school before application. Any student fifteen years of age or older who becomes academically deficient or deficient in attendance shall be reported to the Department of Safety for driver’s license revocation. A student shall be deemed academically deficient if he/she has not received passing grades in at least two full unit subjects on the block schedule or their equivalency at the conclusion of any subsequent grading period. A student shall be deemed deficient in attendance when he/she drops out of school or has more than ten consecutive or fifteen days total in unexcused absences during a single semester. Suspensions shall be considered unexcused absences.

VOTER REGISTRATION, 444-0216

You may obtain a Voter Registration card from the Wilson County Election Commission at 444-0216.

MARRIAGE LICENSE, 444-0314

A Marriage License is $93.50 payable by cash or debit card. Both parties must be present and must bring drivers license and/or social security number or birth certificate. Fee is $33.50 if Applicants have completed a four-hour premarital preparation course (must submit a Certificate of Completion).
